Cruising the Greek Islands

After spending a great time in the Greek mainland in the Pelopponese we sailed into the Greek Islands. Our timing was not right because the Meltemmi had started to blow but I felt that we have a great boat and could weather the winds if they gave us a break. Well they start in the early morning and blow for a few hours then drop or alternatively blow for three or four days. That's well and good if you are in a secure anchorage but not great if the holding is poor. The idea of sailing north into the wind is just not on. We wanted to go to Mycanos and reached it during one of the lulls but then the wind came up and we were stuck anchored on the southern side of the island for four days. We made a runner one day early but got caught during the morning as the wind came up. We were pleased to drop anchor that evening in a quiet bay well off our intended course but out of the wind. For the next two weeks we only sailed down wind, hopping from island to island seeking shelter for the day. Not a great time was had by all. A piece of advice stay away from the Greek island during the Meltemi season.  We visited the following anchorages:
